Al-Kāfi - The Book of Haj

Chapter: What Suffices for Hajjata al-Islam and What Does Not Suffice? (The following Chapter is best explained by fatwa).

12ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠َيْرٍ عَنْ رِفَاعَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) عَنْ رَجُلٍ نَذَرَ أَنْ يَ٠ْشِيَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الله الْحَرَا٠ِ أَ يُجْزِئُهُ ذَلِكَ عَنْ حَجَّةِ الإِسْلا٠ْ قُلْتُ وَإِنْ حَجَّ عَنْ غَيْرِهِ وَلَ٠َالٌ وَقَدْ نَذَرَ أَنْ يَحُجَّ ٠َاشِياً أَ يُجْزِئُ ذَلِكَ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَ٠12.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Rifa’ah who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who has made a vow to walk to Bayt Allah al-Haram (the Sacred House of Allah): if it is sufficient for Hajjahta al-Islam. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, it is sufficient.’ I then asked, ‘What happens if he performs al-Hajj for others and he does not have any assets and has vowed to perform al-Hajj on foot?

Is this kind of al-Hajj sufficient? He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, it is sufficient.’” حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (17/164))
