Al-Kāfi - The Book of Haj

Chapter: The Case of a Woman who Performs al-Hajj on Behalf of a Man ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ ٠َحْبُوبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنْ ٠ُصَادِفٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠َرْأَةِ تَحُجُّ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ الصَّرُورَةِ فَقَالَ إِنْ كَانَتْ قَدْ حَجَّتْ وَكَانَتْ ٠َةً فَقِيهَةً فَرُبَّ ا٠ْرَأَةٍ أَفْقَهُ ٠1.

A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from Musadif who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of an al-Sarurah (one who performs al- Hajj for the first time) woman who performs al-Hajj on behalf of an al-Sarurah man.

He (the Imam) said, ‘It is sufficient if she is a Muslimah and faqihah (knowledgeable in matters of Shari‘ah); many women are more faqihah (knowledgeable in matters of Shari ‘ah) than men.’” شهور - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (17/216))
