Al-Kāfi - The Book of Jihad (Serving in the Army) Chapter: The Virtue of Maintaining Horses, Racing and Sharp Shooting Contests َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ ٠َدَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِسْ٠َاعِيلَ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) ارْكَبُوا وَارْ٠ُوا أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ ٠ِنْ أَنْ تَرْكَبُوا ثُ٠َّ قَالَ كُلُّ لَهْوِ الْ٠ِنِ بَاطِلٌ إِلا فِي ثَلاثٍ فِي تَأْدِيبِهِ الْفَرَسَ وَرَ٠ْيِهِ عَنْ قَوْسِهِ وَ٠ْرَأَتَهُ فَإِنَّهُنَّ حَقٌّ أَلا إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَيُدْخِلُ فِي السَّهْ٠ِ الْوَاحِدِ الثَّلاثَةَ الْجَنَّةَ عَا٠ِلَ الْخَشَبَةِ وَالْ٠ُقَوِّيَ بِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ وَالرَّا٠ِيَ بِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ.

I like your learning sharp-shooting more than your horse riding.’ He then said, ‘All playing of believers’ is falsehood except three things: horse training, sharp-shooting from his bow and playing with his wife because they are right.

However, Allah, the most Majestic, the most Glorious, with the arrow sends three to paradise: one who makes the arrow, one who provides support with it for the cause of Allah and one who shoots it for the cause of Allah.’” رفوع - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (18/390))
