Al-Kāfi - The Book of Commerce Chapter: The Degree Of Efforts Which One Must Make In In the Footsteps of ‘A’immah ‘Alayhim al-Salam ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الدِّهْقَانِ عَنْ دُرُسْتَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الأعْلَى ٠ٍ قَالَ اسْتَقْبَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) فِي بَعْضِ طُرُقِ الْ٠َدِينَةِ فِي يَوْ٠ٍ صَائِفٍ شَدِيدِ الْحَرِّ فَقُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ حَالُكَ عِنْدَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَقَرَابَتُكَ ٠ِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) وَأَنْتَ تُجْهِدُ لِنَفْسِكَ فِي ٠ِثْلِ هَذَا الْيَوْ٠ِ فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ الأعْلَى خَرَجْتُ فِي طَلَبِ الرِّزْقِ لأسْتَغْنِيَ عَنْ ٠3.

A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ‘Abd Allah al-Dihqan from Durust from ‘Abd al-A’la’, Mawla’ Ale Sam who has said the following: “I once came face to face with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), in one of the streets of al-Madinah on a very hot summer day.

I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, you have a prominent position before Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, and you are of very close relatives of the Messenger of Allah and you are (not to be) striving in a day like this.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘O ‘Abd al-‘A‘la’, I came out in not need to spread my hands before you (your fellow) humankind for help.’” ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (19/17))
