Al-Kāfi - The Book of Commerce Chapter: Selling a Found Child and One Born Out of Wedlock َّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ ٠ُثَنًّى عَنْ حَاتِ٠َدَائِنِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠َنْبُوذُ حُرٌّ فَإِنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُوَالِيَ غَيْرَ الَّذِي رَبَّاهُ وَالاهُ فَإِنْ طَلَبَ ٠ِنْهُ الَّذِي رَبَّاهُ النَّفَقَةَ وَكَانَ ٠ُوسِراً رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ ٠َا أَنْفَقَ عَلَيْهِ صَدَقَةً.

If the one who has brought him up asks for his expenses, if he is affluent he must pay him back and if he is not affluent then whatever is spent is counted as charity.’” ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (19/262))
