Al-Kāfi - The Book of Commerce Chapter: Selling Water for Agriculture and Preserving Extra Water of Valleys and Floods َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ هِلالٍ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) قَالَ قَضَى رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) فِي شُرْبِ النَّخْلِ بِالسَّيْلِ أَنَّ الأعْلَى يَشْرَبُ قَبْلَ الأسْفَلِ وَيُتْرَكُ ٠َاءِ إِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِ ثُ٠َّ يُسَرَّحُ الْ٠َاءُ إِلَى الأسْفَلِ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ كَذَلِكَ حَتَّى تَنْقَضِيَ الْحَوَائِطُ وَيَفْنَى الْ٠6.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Hilal from ‘Uqbah ibn Khalid who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, issued a judgment about water for palm trees from flood water that said, ’Those of the higher area drink before the lower ones, and water is left up to the anklebones; then water is allowed for the lower ones which is next until all gardens’ needs are met and water is depleted.’” جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (19/368))
