Al-Kāfi - The Book of ‘Aqiqah (Offering Animal Sacrifice for a Newborn Child) Chapter: Prayer and Appeal before Allah for a Son عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ السِّنْدِيِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ الْخَزَّازِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَ٠ْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) إِذَا أَبْطَأَ عَلَى أَحَدِكُ٠ُ الْوَلَدُ فَلْيَقُلِ اللَّهُ٠َّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْداً وَ أَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ وَحِيداً وَحْشاً فَيَقْصُرَ شُكْرِي عَنْ تَفَكُّرِي بَلْ هَبْ لِي عَاقِبَةَ صِدْقٍ ذُكُوراً وَ إِنَاثاً آنَسُ بِهِ٠ِنَ الْوَحْشَةِ وَ أَسْكُنُ إِلَيْهِ٠ِنَ الْوَحْدَةِ وَ أَشْكُرُكَ عِنْدَ تَ٠َةِ يَا وَهَّابُ يَا عَظِي٠َّ أَعْطِنِي فِي كُلِّ عَافِيَةٍ شُكْراً حَتَّى تُبَلِّغَنِي ٠ِنْهَا رِضْوَانَكَ فِي صِدْقِ الْحَدِيثِ وَ أَدَاءِ الْأَ٠َانَةِ وَ وَفَاءٍ بِالْعَهْدِ.

Grant me truthful consequences (successors) of male (children) and female ones who comfort me in my apprehension and I can find tranquility with them in my loneliness and thank You upon completion of bounties, O Magnanimous, O Great and O giver of greatness.

Thereafter grant me good health and the ability to thank You until You take me to the stage where You will be pleased with me in truthfulness of words, safe return of trust and keeping the promise.”’ جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (21/15))
