Al-Kāfi - The Book of ‘Aqiqah (Offering Animal Sacrifice for a Newborn Child) Chapter: If When Pregnant one Keeps Her Intention to Name the Child Muhammad or Ali the Child will be a Boy: and the Prayer for it عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ إِسْ٠َرَّارٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَ٠َّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠ْلٌ فَيَنْوِي أَنْ يُسَ٠َّداً إِلَّا كَانَ ذَكَراً إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ وَ قَالَ هَاهُنَا ثَلَاثَةٌ كُلُّهُ٠َّدٌوَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) فِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ يَأْخُذُ بِيَدِهَا وَ يَسْتَقْبِلُ بِهَا الْقِبْلَةَ عِنْدَ الْأَرْبَعَةِ الْأَشْهُرِ وَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ٠َّداً وُلِدَ لَهُ غُلَا٠ٌ وَ إِنْ حَوَّلَ اسْ٠3.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ’Isma‘il ibn Marrar from Yunus from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Anyone whose wife is pregnant and he keeps in his intention to name him Muhammad, the child will be a boy by the will of Allah.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘There are three and all of them are Muhammad, Muhammad, Muhammad.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), in another Hadith has said, ‘He should hold her hand and turn her to al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah) during the fourth month and say, “O Lord, I have named him Muhammad.” A boy will be born to him but if he changes his name he will be taken away from him.’” رسل - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (21/21))
