Al-Kāfi - The Book of ‘Aqiqah (Offering Animal Sacrifice for a Newborn Child) Chapter: On the Seventh Day from Birth the Newborn’s Head is Shaved and a Name is Given to Him ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ آدَ٠َ عَنِ الْكَاهِلِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) قَالَ الْعَقِيقَةُ يَوْ٠َ السَّابِعِ وَ يُعْطَى الْقَابِلَةَ الرِّجْلُ ٠َعَ الْوَرِكِ وَ لَا يُكْسَرُ الْعَظْ٠11.

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Khalid from his father from Zakariya ibn Adam from al-Kahiliy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘On the seventh day from the birth of a child ‘Aqiqah must be offered.

One leg and hip of the animal offered as ‘Aqiqah should be given to al-Qabilah (the special nurse, doctor) and the bones should not be broken.’” حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (21/52))
