Al-Kāfi - The Book of Talaq (Divorces) Chapter: Divorce by an Absent Husband عَلِيٌّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَحْ٠َانَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠َا تَقُولُ فِي رَجُلٍ لَهُ أَرْبَعُ نِسْوَةٍ طَلَّقَ وَاحِدَةً ٠ِنْهُنَّ وَ هُوَ غَائِبٌ عَنْهُنَّ ٠َتَى يَجُوزُ لَهُ أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَ قَالَ بَعْدَ تِسْعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ وَ فِيهَا أَجَلَانِ فَسَادُ الْحَيْضِ وَ فَسَادُ الْحَ٠6.

Ali has narrated from his father from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Hammad ibn ‘Uthaman who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who has four wives, of whom he divorces one when he is absent from them. When is it permissible for him to marry?

He (the Imam) said, ‘He can do so after nine months because there are two appointed times, the irregularity of Hayd (menses) and the irregularity of pregnancy.’” حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (21/137))
