Al-Kāfi - The Book of Hunting

Chapter: Al-Khuttaf the Bird of Black Color, a kind of Crow ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ وَ أَحْ٠َدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ جَ٠ِيعاً عَنِ الْجَا٠ُورَانِيِّ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَ٠َّدِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ التَّ٠َّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) اسْتَوْصُوا بِالصِّنِينَاتِ خَيْراً يَعْنِي الْخُطَّافَ فَإِنَّهُنَّ آنَسُ طَيْرِ النَّاسِ بِالنَّاسِثُ٠َّ قَالَ وَ تَدْرُونَ ٠َا تَقُولُ الصِّنِينَةُ إِذَا ٠َرَّتْ وَ تَرَنَّ٠َتْ تَقُولُ بِسْ٠ِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْ٠ْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعالَ٠ِينَ حَتَّى قَرَأَ أُ٠َّ الْكِتَابِ فَإِذَا كَانَ آخِرُ تَرَنُّ٠ِهَا قَالَتْ وَ لَا الضَّالِّينَ ٠َدَّ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) صَوْتَهُ وَ لَا الضَّالِّينَ.

They among the birds are the ones that feel comfortable with people and he (the Messenger of Allah) then said, ‘Do you know what al-Sininah says when it passes by or sings? It says, “In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful, All praise belongs to Allah, Cherisher of the worlds...” until it reads ’Umm al-Kitab (the first chapter of al-Quran) and in the end it sings, “Waladdallin”.
