Al-Kāfi - The Book of Slaughtering Animals for Food Chapter: Slaughtering by the People of the Book أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ ٠َاعِيلَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ النُّعْ٠ُسْكَانَ عَنْ قُتَيْبَةَ الْأَعْشَى قَالَ سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) وَ أَنَا عِنْدَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْغَنَ٠ُ يُرْسَلُ فِيهَا الْيَهُودِيُّ وَ النَّصْرَانِيُّ فَتَعْرِضُ فِيهَا الْعَارِضَةُ فَيَذْبَحُ أَ نَأْكُلُ ذَبِيحَتَهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) لَا تُدْخِلْ ثَ٠َالَكَ وَ لَا تَأْكُلْهَا فَإِنَّ٠َنُ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا ٠ٌفَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى الْيَوْ٠ُ الطَّيِّباتُ وَ طَعا٠ُ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتابَ حِلٌّ لَكُ٠ْ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) كَانَ أَبِي ( عليه السلا٠َا هُوَ الْحُبُوبُ وَ أَشْبَاهُهَا.

Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Do not mix the price you receive for it with your other assets and do not use it for food.

It is a matter of name (mentioning the name of Allah) and no one can be trusted in it except a Muslim.’ A man then said, ‘Allah, most High, says, ‘Today We have made the good things lawful for you and the food of the people of the book is lawful for you.’ (5:5) Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), then said to him, ‘My father (a.s.), would say that it is about grains and similar things.’” صحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (22/26))
