Al-KÄfi - The Book of Slaughtering Animals for Food Chapter: Slaughtering by the People of the Book 17. Certain persons of our people have narrated from Mansur ibn al-âAbbas from âAmr ibn âUthman from Qutaybah al-Aâshaâ who has said the following: âI once saw a man with abu âAbd Allah (a.s.), who asked, âI have a brother in the mountains who exchanges things for other things.
He (the Imam) asked, âIs it because of mutual agreement?â he replied, âYes, that is true.â He (the Imam) said, âIt then is not unlawful.â He then said, âHe may have an agent who is a Jew or Christians who comes across something that sells slaughtered and brings its price, or salt it then brings it salted.â He (the Imam) said, âHe must not eat it.
It is a matter of name (mentioning the name of Allah) in which no one can be trusted except a Muslim.â A certain person present said, âWhat about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, â... the food of the people of the book is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them.â He (the Imam) said, âMy father (a.s.), would say that it is grains and similar things.ââ ضعÙÙ - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (MirʾÄt al-Ê¿UqÅ«l fÄ« Sharḥ AkhbÄr Äl al-RasÅ«l (22/27))
