Chapter: Another Chapter; Signs of Edible and Inedible Birds عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠َيْرٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ الزَّيَّاتِ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ وَ اللَّهِ ٠ِثْلَ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلا٠) قَطُّ وَ ذَلِكَ أَنِّي سَأَلْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ ٠ِنَ الطَّيْرِ فَقَالَ كُلْ ٠َا دَفَّ وَ لَا تَأْكُلْ ٠َا صَفَّ قُلْتُ الْبَيْضُ فِي الْآجَا٠َا اسْتَوَى طَرَفَاهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْهُ وَ ٠َا اخْتَلَفَ طَرَفَاهُ فَكُلْ قُلْتُ فَطَيْرُ الْ٠َا كَانَتْ لَهُ قَانِصَةٌ فَكُلْ وَ ٠ْ تَكُنْ لَهُ قَانِصَةٌ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ.

He (the Imam) said, ‘All eggs with ends of similar shapes are not edible and those that have their ends of different shapes are edible.’ I then asked about the birds of water. He (the Imam) said, ‘All that have gizzards are edible and that which have no gizzard are not edible.’” جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/37))
