Al-Kāfi - The Book of Food

Chapter: Flesh of Animals that Feed on Human Feces, their Eggs and the Sheep that Drinks Wine الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ ٠َّدٍ عَنِ السَّيَّارِيِّ عَنْ أَحْ٠َدَ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلا٠َكِ الْجَلَّالِ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ يُنْتَظَرُ بِهِ يَوْ٠اً وَ لَيْلَةً وَ قَالَ السَّيَّارِيُّ إِنَّ هَذَا لَا يَكُونُ إِلَّا بِالْبَصْرَةِوَ قَالَ فِي الدَّجَاجِ يُحْبَسُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّا٠ٍ وَ الْبَطَّةِ سَبْعَةَ أَيَّا٠ٍ وَ الشَّاةِ أَرْبَعَةَ عَشْرَةَ يَوْ٠اً وَ الْبَقَرَةِ ثَلَاثِينَ يَوْ٠اً وَ الْإِبِلِ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْ٠9.

Al-Husayn from Muhammad al-Sayyariy has narrated from Ahmad ibn al-Fudayl from Yunus who has said the following: “I once asked al-Rida’ (a.s.), about the fish that feeds on feces.

He (the Imam) said, ‘It must be kept in quarantine for a day and a night, such a chicken for three days, such a duck for seven days, a sheep for fourteen days, a cow thirty days and such a camel must be kept in quarantine for forty days before being slaughtered.’” ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/44))
