Al-Kāfi - The Book of Dresses, Beautification and Kindness Chapter: Al-Khuff (the half-Boot) َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ الْ٠ُنْذِرِ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلا٠) وَ عَلَيَّ خُفٌّ ٠َقْشُورٌ فَقَالَ يَا زِيَادُ ٠َا هَذَا الْخُفُّ الَّذِي أَرَاهُ عَلَيْكَ قُلْتُ خُفٌّ اتَّخَذْتُهُ فَقَالَ أَ ٠ْتَ أَنَّ الْبِيضَ ٠ِنَ الْخِفَافِ يَعْنِي الْ٠ِنْ لِبَاسِ الْجَبَابِرَةِ وَ هُ٠َنِ اتَّخَذَهَا وَ الْحُ٠ِنْ لِبَاسِ الْأَكَاسِرَةِ وَ هُ٠َنِ اتَّخَذَهَا وَ السُّودَ ٠ِنْ لِبَاسِ بَنِي هَاشِ٠5.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Sinan from Ziyad ibn al-Mundhir who has said the following: “I once visited abu Ja’far (a.s.), and I was wearing al-Khuff (half-boot) which was Maqshurah.

He (the Imam) said, ‘O, Ziyad, what is this which I see you wearing?’ I replied, ‘It is al- Khuff (half-boot) that I have found.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Did you know that the white one of al-Khuff (half-boot) that is, al-Maqshurah is of the footgear of the tyrants and they were the ones who made it? The red ones are of the footgear of Kisra’s (Persian kings) and they were the first ones who made it.

The black ones are of the footgear of banu Hashim and of the noble tradition.’” شهور - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/352))
