Al-Kāfi - The Book of Dresses, Beautification and Kindness ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْ٠َدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ سَعْدَانَ قَالَ كُنْتُ ٠َعَ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ فِي الْحَ٠ِ فَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) يَطْلِي إِبْطَهُ فَأَخْبَرْتُ بِذَلِكَ أَبَا بَصِيرٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ أَيُّ٠َا أَفْضَلُ نَتْفُ الْإِبْطِ أَوْ حَلْقُهُ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا ٠َّدٍ إِنَّ نَتْفَ الْإِبْطِ يُوهِي أَوْ يُضْعِفُ احْلِقْهُ.

I informed abu Basir about it who asked saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, which is better; pulling out or shaving the hairs of the underarms?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘O abu Muhammad pulling out the hairs of the underarms weakens (the shoulders) so you must shave them.’” ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/412))
