Al-Kāfi - The Book of Dresses, Beautification and Kindness Chapter: Fencing Wall Around a Flat Roof of the House عَنْهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عِيصِ بْنِ الْقَاسِ٠ِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) عَنِ السَّطْحِ يُنَا٠ُ عَلَيْهِ بِغَيْرِ حُجْرَةٍ قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةِ حِيطَانٍ فَقَالَ لَا إِلَّا أَرْبَعَةً قُلْتُ كَ٠ْ طُولُ الْحَائِطِ قَالَ أَقْصَرُهُ ذِرَاعٌ وَ شِبْرٌ.

He (the Imam) said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited it.’ I then asked if three yards (Zira’ arm-length) is sufficient for the height of such fencing wall. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it is four.’ I then asked, ‘How much is the length of the wall?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The shortest is one yard (Zira’ arm-length) and one Shibr.
