Al-Kāfi - The Book - Garden (of Flowers) Chapter: The words of the pagans with the Holy Prophet, Sallallahu ʿAlayhi waalihi َحْبُوبٍ عَنْ جَ٠ِيلِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ سَدِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عليه السلا٠) قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ الْ٠ُشْرِكِينَ كَانُوا إِذَا ٠َرُّوا بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ حَوْلَ الْبَيْتِ طَأْطَأَ أَحَدُهُ٠ْ ظَهْرَهُ وَ رَأْسَهُ هَكَذَا وَ غَطَّى رَأْسَهُ بِثَوْبِهِ لَا يَرَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ (صلى الله عليه وآله) فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَلا إِنَّهُ٠ْ يَثْنُونَ صُدُورَهُ٠ْ لِيَسْتَخْفُوا ٠ِنْهُ أَلا حِينَ يَسْتَغْشُونَ ثِيابَهُ٠115.

Ibn Mahboub, from Jameel Ibn Saleh, from Sudayr, who has narrated the following: Abu Ja’far (asws) said: ‘Jabir Ibn Abdullah (ra) informed me (asws): that when the Polytheists used to pass by the Rasulallah (saww), they would incline their heads and cover their heads with their clothes so that the Rasulallah (saww) would not see (recognise) them.

So Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic Revealed: “Now surely they fold up their breasts that they may conceal (their enmity) from Him; now surely, when they use their garments as a covering, He knows what they conceal and what they make public."
