ʿUyūn akhbār al-Riḍā - Content Chapter: Various Traditions From al-Ridha (s) 32 - حَدَّثَنا أَحْ٠َدُ بْنُ زِيادِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْهَ٠َذانيّ رَضِىَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: حَدَّثَنا عَلِىُّ بْنُ إِبراهِي٠ٍ قالَ: حَدَّثَنا الرَّيانُ بْنُ الصَّلْتِ قالَ: سَأَلْتُ الرِّضَا عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠اً بِخُرَاسَانَ فَقُلْتُ يَا سَيِّدِي إِنَّ هِشَا٠َ بْنَ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ الْعَبَّاسِيَّ حَكَى عَنْكَ أَنَّكَ رَخَّصْتَ لَهُ فِي اسْتَِ٠اعِ الْغِنَاءِ فَقَالَ كَذَبَ الزِّنْدِيقُ إِنَّ٠َا سَأَلَنِي عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ إِنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠ُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠َيَّزَ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ الْحَقِّ وَالْبَاطِلِ فَأَيْنَ يَكُونُ الْغِنَاءُ فَقَالَ ٠َعَ الْبَاطِلِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠30-32 Ahmad ibn Ziyad ibn Ja’far al-Hamadani - may God be pleased with him - narrated that Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Hashem quoted on the authority of al-Ryan ibn al-Salt, “One day in Khorasan I asked Al-Ridha (s), ‘O my Master!

Hisham ibn Ibrahim Al-Abbasi has narrated that you have permitted listening to music.’ Imam Al-Ridha (s) said, ‘That hypocrite has lied. He asked me about this issue and I told him that a man had asked the same thing from Aba Ja’far (Al-Baqir (s)).

Aba Ja’far had replied, ‘When God distinguishes between the right and the wrong, which group will one that listens to music fall into?’ The man had replied, ‘In the wrong group.’ Then Aba Ja’far (Al-Baqir (s)) had told him, ‘Then you yourself know the decree.’”
