ʿUyūn akhbār al-Riḍā - Content Chapter: Traditions about Ar-Ridha (a.s.) 200 - وَبِهذَا الإِسناد عَنِ الرِّضا عَنْ أَبِيهِ‏ عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠ُقالَ: رَأى‏ الصَّادِق‏ عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠ُ رَجُلاً قَد اشتَدَّ جَزعَه عَلَى وُلْدِه فَقالَ: يا هذا أَجَزعَت لِل٠ُصيبَة الصُّغرى وَغَفَلتَ عَن ال٠ُصيبَةِ الكُبرى لَوْ كُنْتَ لَ٠ّا صارَ إِلَيْهِ وَلَدُكَ ٠َا اشتَدَّ جَزعَك عَلَيْهِ فَ٠ُصابِكَ بِتَركِك الاِستِعدادَ لَهُ أَعْظَ٠ُصابِكَ بِوَلَدِكَ.

31-200 According to the same documentation, it is narrated that Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) quoted on the authority of his father (a.s.), “Once As-Sadiq (a.s.) saw a man who was seriously upset over the death of his son. The Imam (a.s.) told him, ‘Are you so upset about such a minor calamity and have you forgotten about the major calamity? If you had prepared yourself earlier for the loss of your son you would not have become so upset now.

This lack of preparedness for the loss of your son is worse than his actual loss.’”
