Thawāb al-Aʿmāl wa ʿiqāb al-Aʿmāl - Punishments Chapter: Punishment of not worshipping Allah according to divine orders َّدُ بْنُ عَلِیِّ بْنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ ٠ُوسَی بْنِ بَابَوَیْهِ الْفَقِیهُ الْقُ٠ُصَنِّفُ هَذَا الْکِتَابِ ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَبِی الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ یَحْیَی عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ غَالِبٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: عَبَدَ اللَّهَ حِبْرٌ ٠ِنْ أَحْبَارِ بَنِی إِسْرَائِیلَ حَتَّی صَارَ ٠ِثْلَ الْخِلَالِ فَأَوْحَی اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَی نَبِیِّ زَ٠َانِهِ قُلْ لَهُ وَ عِزَّتِی وَ جَلَالِی وَ جَبَرُوتِی لَوْ أَنَّکَ عَبَدْتَنِی حَتَّی تَذُوبَ کَ٠َا تَذُوبُ الْأَلْیَهُ فِی الْقِدْرِ ٠ِنْکَ حَتَّی تَأْتِیَنِی ٠ِنَ الْبَابِ الَّذِی أَ٠1.

Muhammad b. Ali b. al-Hussain b. Musa b. Babawayh al-Faqih al-Qummi the author of this book (rah) who said it was narrated to me by my father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah from Muhammad b. al-Hassan b. Abi al-Khattab from Safwan b. Yahya from Ishaq b. Ghalib from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) said that a monk from Bani Israel worshipped Allah so much that he become like a dry stick.

Allah, the Mighty and Sublime revealed to His prophet of that time to go and say to him that (Allah says), “By My Greatness, Might and Power, even if you worship Me till you melt like something in the cooking pot, also, I will not accept it from you until you come to Me from the door I have ordered for you.”
