Thawāb al-Aʿmāl wa ʿiqāb al-Aʿmāl - Punishments Chapter: Punishment of obeying an unjust leader who is not appointed by Allah ُتَوَکِّلِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْحِ٠ْیَرِیُّ عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ ٠َحْبُوبٍ عَنْ هِشَا٠ٍ عَنْ حَبِیبٍ السِّجِسْتَانِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ [لَأُعَذِّبَنَ] إن کانت کُلَّ رَعِیَّهٍ فِی الْإِسْلَا٠اً جَائِراً لَیْسَ ٠ِنَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ إِنْ کَانَتِ الرَّعِیَّهُ فِی أَعْ٠َالِهَا بَرَّهً تَقِیَّهً فلأعفون [وَ لَأَعْفُوَنَ] عَنْ کُلِّ رَعِیَّهٍ فِی الْإِسْلَا٠ِنَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ إِنْ کَانَتِ الرَّعِیَّهُ فِی أَعْ٠1.

Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) narrates that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “Allah, the Mighty and Sublime said: Whoever from the Muslim community obeys an unjust ruler not appointed by Allah, Allah will send chastisement on him even if there are good deeds of that community and even if the people are pious. Whoever from the Muslim community obeys the guide appointed by Allah, Allah will surely forgive him even if he has injustice and sins written in his scroll of deeds.”
