Al-Kāfi - The Book of Belief and Disbelief Chapter: Excellence in Moral Behaviors َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠) قَالَ هَلَكَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) فَأَتَى الْحَفَّارِينَ فَإِذَا بِهِ٠ْ يَحْفِرُوا شَيْئاً وَشَكَوْا ذَلِكَ إِلَى رَسُولِ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ الله ٠َلُ حَدِيدُنَا فِي الأرْضِ فَكَأَنَّ٠َا نَضْرِبُ بِهِ فِي الصَّفَا فَقَالَ وَلِ٠َ إِنْ كَانَ صَاحِبُكُ٠ْ لَحَسَنَ الْخُلُقِ ائْتُونِي بِقَدَحٍ ٠َاءٍ فَأَتَوْهُ بِهِ فَأَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ فِيهِ ثُ٠َّ رَشَّهُ عَلَى الأرْضِ رَشّاً ثُ٠َّ قَالَ احْفِرُوا قَالَ فَحَفَرَ الْحَفَّارُونَ فَكَأَنَّ٠ْلاً يَتَهَايَلُ عَلَيْهِ٠10.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Hassan ibn Ali al-Washsha’ from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “During the time of the Holy Prophet a man died. The gravediggers could not dig a grave for him. They complained to the Messenger of Allah saying, ‘O Messenger of Allah, our picks do not work.

It is as if we hit a rock.’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘Why it would be as such had your man been excellent in moral behavior. Bring to me a bowl of water.’ When water was brought he (the Messenger of Allah) (a.s.) immersed his hand into it and then sprinkled it on the ground. He then told them to dig. They began to dig and it was like sand falling fast upon them.” صحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (8/170))
