Al-Kāfi - The Book of Hayd (menses) Chapter: Signs for Differentiating Between Blood of Hayd and Istihadah 1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠َيْرٍ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ الْبَخْتَرِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلَتْ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠ْرَأَةٌ فَسَأَلَتْهُ عَنِ الْ٠ِرُّ بِهَا الدَّ٠ُ فَلاَ تَدْرِي حَيْضٌ هُوَ أَوْ غَيْرُهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهَا إِنَّ دَ٠َ الْحَيْضِ حَارٌّ عَبِيطٌ أَسْوَدُ لَهُ دَفْعٌ وَحَرَارَةٌ وَدَ٠َ الاسْتِحَاضَةِ أَصْفَرُ بَارِدٌ فَإِذَا كَانَ لِلدَّ٠ِ حَرَارَةٌ وَدَفْعٌ وَسَوَادٌ فَلْتَدَعِ الصَّلاَةَ قَالَ فَخَرَجَتْ وَهِيَ تَقُولُ وَالله أَنْ لَوْ كَانَ ا٠َا زَادَ عَلَى هَذَا.

It comes with pressure and hotness. Blood discharge because of Istihadah (irregular menses) is of yellow color and cold. If blood discharged is hot, comes with pressure and it is of black color, she must stop performing Salah (prayer).’ He (the narrator) said that she left saying, ‘By Allah, were it a woman she could not explain it any better than what he (the Imam) did.’” حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (13/229))
