Al-Kāfi - The Book of al-Zakat Chapter: Preferences for Relatives and Those of Them to Whom Zakat Cannot Be Paid َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْ٠َنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠ْسَةٌ لاَ يُعْطَوْنَ ٠ِنَ الزَّكَاةِ شَيْئاً الأبُ وَالأ٠ُّ وَالْوَلَدُ وَالْ٠َرْأَةُ وَذَلِكَ أَنَّهُ٠ْ عِيَالُهُ لاَزِ٠5.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Safwan ibn Yahya from ‘Abd al- Rahman ibn al-Hajjaj who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Zakat cannot be given to five kinds of people: father, mother, children, slaves, and one’s wife, because they are one’s dependents for whom one must provide sustenance.’”
