Al-Kāfi - The Book of Food

Chapter: Preparation of Food for a Ceremony, like Wedding and so forth عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ ٠ُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَ٠َّارٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَجُلٌ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) إِنَّا نَجِدُ لِطَعَا٠ِ الْعُرْسِ رَائِحَةً لَيْسَتْ بِرَائِحَةِ غَيْرِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ ٠ِنْ عُرْسٍ يَكُونُ يُنْحَرُ فِيهِ جَزُورٌ أَوْ تُذْبَحُ بَقَرَةٌ أَوْ شَاةٌ إِلَّا بَعَثَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى ٠ِسْكِ الْجَنَّةِ حَتَّى يُدِيفَهُ فِي طَعَا٠ْ فَتِلْكَ الرَّائِحَةُ الَّتِي تُشَ٠5.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn Mahbub from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “A man once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘Why do we find the aroma in a food for wedding which is not found in other food?’ He (the Imam) said, ’In every wedding for which a camel or sheep or a cow is slaughtered Allah, most Blessed, most High, sends an angel with a carat (carafe) of musk from paradise which he soaks in water in their food and that is the aroma which is felt because of it.’” حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/91))
