Al-Kāfi - The Book of Food

Chapter: Mentioning the name of Allah and Tahmid (All Praise Belongs to Allah) over the Food أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠ِّي عَلَى الطَّعَا٠ِ قَالَ فَقَالَ إِذَا اخْتَلَفَتِ الْآنِيَةُ فَسَ٠ِّ عَلَى كُلِّ إِنَاءٍ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ نَسِيتُ أَنْ أُسَ٠ِّيَ قَالَ تَقُولُ بِسْ٠ِ اللَّهِ عَلَى أَوَّلِهِ وَ آخِرِهِ.

He (the Imam) said, ‘If the dishes are more than one, then you should mention the name of Allah on each one.’ I then asked, ‘What happens if I forget mentioning the name of Allah?’ He (the Imam) told me to say, ‘In the name of Allah at its beginning and at its end.’” صحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/110))
