Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from al-âAlaâ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: âAbout the case of a man who dies and leaves behind a widow and he is absent, one of the two Imam, (abu Jaâfar or abu âAbd Allah), âAlayhim al-Salam, has said, âShe must commence her âIddah (waiting period) from the day she receives the news of his death.ââ ØµØÙØ - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (MirʾÄt al-Ê¿UqÅ«l fÄ« Sharḥ AkhbÄr Äl al-RasÅ«l (21/191))
