Al-Kāfi - The Book of Talaq (Divorces) َيْدٌ عَنِ ابْنِ سَ٠َاعَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ رِبَاطٍ عَنْ عِيصِ بْنِ الْقَاسِ٠ِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ خَيَّرَ ا٠ْرَأَتَهُ فَاخْتَارَتْ نَفْسَهَا بَانَتْ ٠ِنْهُ قَالَ لَا إِنَّ٠َا هَذَا شَيْ‏ءٌ كَانَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) خَاصَّةً أُ٠ِرَ بِذَلِكَ فَفَعَلَ وَ لَوِ اخْتَرْنَ أَنْفُسَهُنَّ لَطَلَّقَهُنَّ وَ هُوَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ قُلْ لِأَزْواجِكَ إِنْ كُنْتُنَّ تُرِدْنَ الْحَياةَ الدُّنْيا وَ زِينَتَها فَتَعالَيْنَ أُ٠َتِّعْكُنَّ وَ أُسَرِّحْكُنَّ سَراحاً جَ٠3.

Humayd has narrated from ibn Sama‘ah from ibn Ribat from ‘Es ibn al-Qasim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who gives his wife the choice; if she becomes stranger for him. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, this was something especially for the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.

He (the Messenger of Allah) was commanded to do so and if they were to choose themselves he would divorce them. This is in the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘Say to your wives, “If you want the worldly life and its beauty, then be prepared, so he (the Messenger of Allah) benefits you and allows you to be free with fairness.” (33:28)’” وثق - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (1/230))
